A Critical Phase of National Renewal
From February 20–24, the extended session of the Supreme Spiritual Council, presided over by His Holiness Karekin II, took place at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. During the session, the awaited announcement was made: “The re-consecration of the Mother Cathedral and the Blessing of the Holy Chrism will take place on September 28–29, on the feast days of St. George the Commander and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of Varag.”
The Mother Cathedral, founded by St. Gregory the Illuminator through the Descent of Christ and built by him and King Tiridates III between 301–303, is the spiritual and administrative center of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
We are hopeful that the re-consecration of the Mother Cathedral will become a milestone for renewal and unity in our national life, enabling us to preserve our values and reclaim what has been lost.
