Concerns Over the Church of the Holy Martyrs in Aghavno, Artsakh

Monitoring of Azerbaijani social media has revealed that the Church of the Holy Martyrs in Aghavno, part of the Kashatagh region in Artsakh, has been entirely encased in scaffolding and coverings.

Given the fate of the Church of the Ascension in Berdzor, which suffered the same treatment before its destruction, we are deeply concerned about the future of the Church of the Holy Martyrs in Aghavno. Past experiences demonstrate that Azerbaijan is capable of destroying any Armenian Christian cultural heritage without hesitation.

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strongly condemns these ongoing acts of vandalism and calls on international cultural preservation organizations to prevent the cultural genocide currently unfolding in Artsakh.

The Church of the Holy Martyrs in Aghavno was constructed in 2002.
