Red Monastery
Martakert Province, Vaghuhas village
The St. Gregory Monastery of Berdadzor, also known as Red Monastery is 10 km from Vaghuhas village in the Martakert region. An inscription on the main church says it was built in 1224 by Prince Sako, who founded a branch of the noble house of Vakhtang. Next to the main church lie the vestibule and a second church, both built in the same century. Karmir Vank is noted for its scribes and manuscript copyists, particularly one named Vardan. Numerous engravings grace the waIls of the monastery.
