Holy Easter, 2025

Dear Faithful,

Today, the glorious message of our Lord’s Resurrection resounds in our hearts and souls: "Christ is risen from the dead." Indeed, the Resurrection of Christ is the cornerstone of Christian faith — a divine truth that proclaims the ultimate victory of life over death, and breathes hope and purpose into our lives.

We are living in challenging times, marked by trials, sorrow, and profound losses for both Artsakh and Armenia.

The injustices, indifference, and unjust persecutions prevailing in the world often create a sense of despair. Yet we, as followers of Christ, carry within us the radiant light of the Resurrection — a light that never fades. And this light assures us that just as our Lord’s tomb was found empty, so too will the dark circumstances that seek to bury us prove powerless, if we remain steadfast in our faith and true to our values.

Today, Christ addresses a question to our nation: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

If we truly believe in the Resurrection of Christ, then we must also believe that through Christ, every hardship can be overcome, and that our Just Lord will not leave unanswered the prayers of those who believe in Him and walk in His word.

Beloved, let the faith in the Resurrection strengthen us — fortifying our commitment to our values, as well as our love and care for one another. Only then will we be able to realize even the dreams that seem most distant.

With the Lord’s help, we shall walk this path and reclaim our homeland — the land of Artsakh. May all our prayers today — which undoubtedly ascend for our homeland and for our children — also remember our captive compatriots, who are deprived of the joy of celebrating the Resurrection with their loved ones. May God, without delay, grant them the grace of freedom, for they have become the living embodiment of our collective sorrow.

Be strong in spirit, and believe: death holds no sting against a people armed with the faith of the Resurrection.

Christ is Risen,

Truly He is Risen !

Message of Bishop Vrtanes From the Mother Monastery of St. Jakob, Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
