Feast of Saint Sarkis

Every year on the Saturday of Great Lent, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church celebrates the Day of St. Sarkis, his son Martiros and 14 soldiers. Many years ago, by the order of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, St. Sargis Day was proclaimed the day of blessing the young.

On February 12, on this occasion, the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church organized various events in churches named after St. Sarkis.

On the occasion of this feast, a pilgrimage was organized to the Church of St. Sarkis in Yeghtsahogh, where, under the chairmanship of the leader of the Artsakh Diocese, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, Father Mateos Dravants served the holy liturgy. The liturgy was attended by the faithful of the village - both children and adults, as well as young pilgrims.

At the end of the liturgy, ceremony of blessing of the newlyweds took place. His Holiness asked the Almighty God for His mercy and guidance for the youth: “Merciful and philanthropic Lord, bless these youths with Your highly benevolent will, direct them to good deeds and virtuous behavior, grow and multiply them with offspring and all goodness, give a healthy life and we will glorify You forever."

The intercession of the Blessed one was asked especially for our captive compatriots, so that, just as Saint Sarkis could ask God with his intercession for the return of his captive son, so we, with the help of the Holy One, could convey our prayers to the Lord God for the return of our captive sons.
