Azerbaijan is changing Armenian culture by transforming Tsitsernavank
The Azerbaijani authorities have announced that they will restore the Armenian Tsitsernavank. It is located in the Berdzor (Lachin) region of the Republic of Artsakh, currently under Azerbaijani control. However, the real goals of the restoration and the future of the monastery are in question. It is not known how the monastery will continue to exist after the restoration.
It is assumed that the Armenian monastery may be handed over to the Albanian-Udyan Christian community encouraged by Azerbaijan, in an attempt to reclaim Armenian cultural heritage.
”Trend” Agency reports that the Azerbaijani President’s special representative in the Berdzor region, Huseyn Guliyev, stated that Azerbaijani state bodies are developing proposals for the restoration of the monastery. It should be noted that Azerbaijan calls the Armenian Tsitsernavank “Aghoghlan Monastery”, trying to change not only its cultural but also historical identity.
