Shoshkavank monastery

Martuni Province, Msmna village

The Shoshkavank monastery is situated to the north-east of the Khatchmach village of the Askeran region, on a mountainous height. The entrance is from the western side. It was built in the XII-XIII centuries. It has a single-nave gallery composition (dimensions 9,18 x 6,25m ). During the time of renovation, its style has changed. The layout is disproportionate. As evident from the walls, the church was subjected to renovations earlier as well. It had a cross-decorated stage, three windows and one entrance. In the surrounding traits of ruined buildings were noticed, which probably belonged to the vestibule and economic and residential structures, which are not preserved now. The church was renovated in 1999, during which alterations were done, which has changed the previous look of the monument. According to the studies done on the site, the previous church was one of the main sanctuaries of the area, which present the after the renovation is one of the remarkable monuments of the Artsakh territory.
